João Graça Gomes was a senior R&D engineer at the Shanghai Investigation, Design and Research Institute (SIDRI) and the Sino-Portuguese Center for New Energy Technologies (SCNET), a joint venture between China Three Gorges Corporation and EDP.
His work has focused on developing research projects in the field of energy, especially energy planning, energy storage and offshore wind. Before joining SIDRI, João worked at the Portuguese Renewable Energy Association (APREN) as an Energy Policy Analyst and was a teaching assistant at the University of Lisbon and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).
He holds an Integrated Master’s Degree in Energy and Environmental Engineering from the University of Lisbon and a Master’s Degree in Energy Engineering from SJTU. He has published several scientific articles and collaborated on reports for international organizations such as the World Bank, Bioenergy Europe, REN21, the World Energy Council and others.
Due to his research and contribution to the energy sector, he has received several awards from renowned institutions such as the Order of Engineers, Institution of Engineering and Technology, China Three Gorges Corporation and the Outstanding International Student award from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
João is also a board member of the World Energy Council’s FEL 100 (Future Energy Leaders 100) program, a board member of the Future Energy Leaders Portugal program and an ambassador for the European Green Deal.
João Graça Gomes has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since December 2022.
